The current framework for organic production, labelling and control in the EU.
Organic production in the European Union is governed by Regulation (EU) 2018/848 of 30 May 2018 on organic production and labelling of organic products and repealing Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007, applicable from 1 January 2022.
This regulation establishes the principles of organic production and lays down the rules concerning organic production, related certification and the use of indications referring to organic production in labelling and advertising.
Every product produced to the standards of this regulation gains the right to be labelled as organic and to bear the logo of the standard as a guarantee of purity and quality. Balkan Biocert Ltd., in its capacity as a control body, monitors the production and/or processing of the products and certifies that they have been produced in accordance with the rules and principles set out in this standard.
What it requires
Certification under this regulation is the condition for your produce to be labelled as organic, to bear the EU organic logo and to be placed on the market as such. It is also the foundation on which the other standards build - for Bio Suisse, NOP and KRAV, EU certification is a prerequisite, and their requirements build on it.
